Community Service for the Rotary Club of Pollock Pines-Camino begins with our support of the schools but we also provide much community support.
We give dictionaries each year to all the third graders in Pollock Pines, Camino and Silver Fork. In this way we demonstrate our commitment to promoting literacy and we have fun in the process. The children are just thrilled with the beautiful books.
Halloween offers the Community Halloween Party co-sponsored by the Community Center and our club. Free hot dogs, chips and drinks are donated by the community and prepared by Rotarians. The games and other activities are provided by other volunteers.
In 2008 we sponsored our first student to the Rotary Youth Leadership Award. The week with other talented and responsible 11th grade students was a life changing experience for our student. This is a program we will continue to support.
The Music and Speech contests are another highlight. We average 6 students competing in each of these contests and never fail to be impressed with the quality of their preparation.
The county Spelling Bee has long been a Rotary priority providing judges and helping to underwrite the expense of this county wide event.
New in 2009 is participation in Rotarians At Work Day scheduled for April25, 2009. Rotarians all over the world will come together on one day and provide a particular service to their communities. We are excited to be part of this impressive undertaking.
July 4th will find the Pollock Pines-Camino Rotary actively supporting the Pollock Pines Parade. We have provided the necessary insurance for this popular event and plan to have a "float", (or maybe just a car of two) to demonstrate our involvement.
The Cub Scouts depend on this club to sponsor their troop. It is fun to be able to help develop young future leaders.
We support many other non-profit organizations as well.
