Trees for Teens 2024

Rotarians at work!

The Pollock Pines-Camino Rotary Club sponsored a Christmas Tree in support of Trees for Teens, a fundraiser administered by CEDAPP that provides a Christmas gift card to a teen or tween in need in our community.

A big thanks to members Erin, Yami, Ginger, and Tony for putting their Christmas tree-decorating skills to work.

Rotarians are People of Action, and for over 75 years, we’ve been a force for good in the Pollock Pines and Camino communities.
If you have a vision for making a difference in our communities, bring your passion, and let’s be great together.

Cash Creek Benefit Success

A huge, heartfelt thank you to Cash Creek & Friends, our sponsors, donors, and club members who spent several months planning, preparing, and promoting the event, and all the generous community members who attended, making our November 1st, 2024 benefit concert an evening of incredible music, community, and success!

Our Cash Creek Benefit Concert came about because club member, Erin Blaylock, has ER work experience and knows first hand that women with substance abuse disorders and their children are in need of assistance. Determined to make a difference in our community, Erin happened upon Progress House in Camino and leaned that her intuition was correct. There was a need for critical, every day supplies.

Erin’s husband, James Blaylock, is the drummer for Cash Creek, and Erin knew they would be out here for concert on November 2. After discussion amongst the band members, it was decided the band would participate in a benefit concert. Once the band committed, the Pollock Pines-Camino Rotary Club went to to work to make this awesome event a reality.

As president of the Pollock Pines-Camino Rotary club, I want to thank and recognize Erin for her vision and desire to make this a better world for all, starting right here in Pollock Pines and Camino.

What is your vision for doing good in the world? What would you like to change in Pollock Pines and Camino? The Pollock Pines-Camino Rotary Club is looking for new members that have a passion for doing good in the world. We’d love to have you join us.

Please thank and support our sponsors and donors

World Polio Day 2024

For more than 30 years, Rotary and our partners have driven the effort to eradicate polio worldwide. Our PolioPlus program was the first initiative to tackle global polio eradication by vaccinating children on a massive scale.

Rotary members have contributed more than $2.2 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by governments to contribute more than $10 billion to the effort.

When Rotary and its partners formed the GPEI in 1988, there were 350,000 cases of polio in 125 countries every year. Today, we have reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent, and just two countries continue to report cases of wild poliovirus: Afghanistan and Pakistan. Because of the efforts of Rotary and its partners, nearly 19.4 million people who would otherwise have been paralyzed are walking, and more than 1.5 million people are alive who would otherwise have died. The infrastructure we helped build to end polio is also being used to treat and prevent other diseases (including COVID-19) and create lasting impact in other areas of public health.

Rotary and our partners have made tremendous progress against polio, but eliminating all cases is going to take even more progress and perseverance. Afghanistan and Pakistan face unique challenges, including political insecurity, highly mobile populations, difficult terrain, and, in some instances, vaccine refusal and misinformation. With sufficient resources, the commitment of national governments, and innovations that improve access to remote areas, we are optimistic that we can eliminate polio.

Rotary has committed to raising $50 million per year for polio eradication. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has pledged to match that 2-to-1, for a total commitment of $150 million each year. These funds provide much-needed operational support, medical workers, laboratory equipment, and educational materials. Governments, corporations, and private donors all play a crucial role in funding.

More than 1 million Rotary members have donated their time and money to eradicate polio, and every year, hundreds of members work with health workers to vaccinate children in countries affected by polio. Rotary members work with UNICEF and other partners to prepare and distribute informational materials for people in areas that are isolated by conflict, geography, or poverty. They also mobilize to recruit fellow volunteers, assist in transporting the vaccine, and provide other logistical support.

The Pollock Pines-Camino Rotary Club contributes to the Polio Plus program on an annual basis.  We are a small, but mighty club with heart, and we have a global impact.

Please support our efforts at eradicating Polio by making a $10.00 donation to our Polio Plus campaign.

Together, we can be great together!

Dinner Social Meeting
The Forrester Pub & Grill, Camino

Our October 17th Dinner Social meeting at the Forrester in Camino was a special night as new member Sally Long Johns was inducted into our club. Sally is a local Realtor with Century 21 Select in Placerville. Sally is passionate about connecting people with other people to implement great ideas and help others. In addition, Sally would love to see more opportunities for youth to have access to vocational training, internships, and mentorships with local businesses and professionals. Sally's husband, Chris, was in attendance.

Our club looks forward to empowering Sally to utilize her passion and bring her vision for making Pollock Pines and Camino better communities for all a reality. In addition to inducting Sally, we engaged in fellowship as we learned more about each other, had fun with a word game, and enjoyed wonderful food and service from the Forrester. Club members are super excited about our upcoming Cash Creek & Friends benefit concert. Hope to see you there.

Sept 19th Dinner Social Meeting

Our September 19th Dinner Social Meeting was at HWY 50 Brewery in Camino. We limit business items at our Dinner Social Meetings so we can focus on fellowship and having fun. We succeeded. Everyone had a great time, and the food and drinks were spectacular.

We inducted a new member into our club, Yami Lyster from Camino. Yami is passionate about making our community better, safer, and a happier place for all, especially the elderly and veterans. We're excited to have Yami on board and look forward to supporting her in her quest to make Pollock Pines and Camino better communities for all. In attendance at Yami's induction were her son Ken, his wife Debbie, and daughter Savannah Rose.

We experienced some rain and were treated to a spectacular sunset and rainbow.
We're looking for new members. If you are passionate about doing the right thing and making this a better world for all, check out the Pollock Pines-Camino Rotary Club. Let's be great together.
